During her reign as '80s pop diva, Whitney Houston strung together a record seven number one songs in a row including this frothy pop ditty. Can you name this chart-topper that became her biggest hit of the decade?
The correct answer is 'How Will I Know'
"How Will I Know" ascended to the top spot on February 15th, 1986 and stayed there for two weeks. The song spent 23 weeks on the Hot 100, 16 of those in the top 40. It was the third release off of her album "Whitney Houston" which spent 14 weeks at number one and went platinum twelve times. The video was memorable for dancers dressed in black, brightly colored paint dripping down the screen and Whitney's huge, frizzy hair. It was surreal in an '80s sort of way.
"Where Do Broken Hearts Go?" was Whitney Houston's seventh number one in a row in 1987. Tina Turner took "What's Love Got to Do With It" to number one in September of 1984. "Where's the Beef?" was uttered by a sweet old lady named Clara Peller in a Wendy's commercial and was later used by Walter Mondale as a campaign slogan for president in 1984.
FUN FACT: Whitney displaced her own cousin from number one when "How Will I Know" knocked Dionne Warwick's "That's What Friends Are For" out of the top spot. Now play nice Whitney!
