The REAL Lord of the Rings! (for musicos) - And what about near the beginning of "Tristan" Act II, just as the horns are fading away?
The correct answer is 'sul ponticello (play near the bridge)'
Wagner uses sul ponticello to produce a thin, "far-away" effect, to take over from the horns receding into the distance without spoiling the effect. Ricochet bowing is very much a solo effect involving bouncing the bow lightly; as far as I'm aware, Wagner never used it. Sul tasto means to play over the fingerboard, producing a thick but weak sound. I'm not aware that Wagner used this, but again I stand to be corrected. Quadruple-stopping was common quite early on in the solo violin literature, and Wagner certainly wasn't sparing with it in his orchestral writing. It doesn't actually involve playing on all four strings at once, but "breaking" rapidly across, usually from the bottom to the top.
Lord Of The Rings Question 2
"The Lord of the Rings" The Extended Edition - We see Bilbo frantically searching for the Ring, and to his relief he finally finds it. Where does Bilbo find the Ring?
The correct answer is 'In his waistcoat pocket'
My favorite quote that Bilbo says is "No wait, it's right here in my pocket. Now isn't that odd?"
Lord Of The Rings Question 3
Mr. Sean Astin And His Movies - Who does Sean play in the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogies?
The correct answer is 'Sam'
He plays the loyal, and quite shy, hobbit Sam. Sam is a dear friend of Frodo(Elijah Wood) and is along with Frodo on his quest. Gandalf is played by Ian McKellen, and Merry is played by Dominic Monaghan.
Lord Of The Rings Question 4
'Lord of the Rings' Songs - 'I sit beside the fire and think, Of how the world will be, When winter comes without a spring, That I shall never see.' Who sang this, and where?
The correct answer is 'Bilbo, in Rivendell, in old age.'
Bilbo was extremely old by the time of the War of the Ring, with his life being unnaturally extended by posession of the One Ring. On its destruction, he began to feel his age, and eventually crossed the Sundering Seas at the age of one hundred and thirty three (finally beating the Old Took's record as the longest-living hobbit.)
Lord Of The Rings Question 5
Development of "Lord of the Rings" (part 2) - A while after Saruman enters the story, the idea of a evil Treebeard is dropped, and Gandalf's imprisonment by him is then of course dropped. But before the idea of Gandalf being held at the top of Orthanc, where is he held captured?
The correct answer is 'The White Towers on the Tower hills'
He was held in the westernmost of the White towers on the Tower Hills. There he was guarded by Black Riders.
Lord Of The Rings Question 6
LOTR "Return of the King" - What are the names of the Orc leaders who start the fight in the tower of Cirith Ungol?
The correct answer is 'Shagrat & Gorbag'
They take care of most of the fighting so Samwise the "Elf warrior" can come in and make his dramatic rescue of Frodo.
Lord Of The Rings Question 7
Ultimate LOTR - 'Return of the King' Part 4 - Having sprung Frodo from his wretched confines in the tower, Sam now leads his friend along the path towards their ultimate destination, Mount Doom. Unfortunately, they have run alarmingly low in their water supply. With a stroke of incredible luck, however, they find a streamlet of water along the Morgul-road. With what two words is this water described?
The correct answer is 'Bitter and oily'
Sam insists that he be the first to test the water, in case it happens to be poisonous. Frodo will not hear of this, however, and he insists that they both consume the welcome liquid, despite its rather unpleasant taste. They also consume a bit of lembas and enjoy a crack of light from the sky that has seemingly appeared by providence.
Lord Of The Rings Question 8
"Lord of the Rings" and "Harry Potter" - Let's talk about bad guys. Who are the bad guys in "Lord of the Rings" and "Harry Potter"?
The correct answer is 'Sauron and Voldemort'
Although Saruman is indeed a bad guy in "Lord of the Rings," Black was actually a good guy in "Harry Potter" and Denethor was just driven mad by Sauron.
Lord Of The Rings Question 9
"The Two Towers": Names - What is the name of the man who was missing and presumed dead, but led his men in at the last second and helped save Helm's Deep?
The correct answer is 'Erkenbrand'
This one may have tricked you. Gandalf wasn't missing; he had rode off in search of Erkenbrand because he and his men were needed at Helm's Deep.
Lord Of The Rings Question 10
The Return of the King - Bilbo Baggins is given a space on one of the last ships to leave Middle Earth.
The correct answer is 'True'
Frodo leaves with Bilbo on the ship. He says that the journey has changed him too much to live in the Shire again.
