Lord Of The Rings Question 7
Middle-Earth Math - What is the number of LOTR movies (not including animated versions) divided by the number of children of Hurin squared? [(#LOTR movies)/((#Hurin's children)^2)] (Remember to simplify)
The correct answer is '1/3'
There were of course, three movies: 'The Fellowship of the Ring,' 'The Two Towers,' and 'The Return of the King.' Hurin had three children: Turin, Laliath, and Nienor. Three squared is nine. 3/9 simplified is 1/3.
Laliath was barely mentioned in the "Silmarillion", but she was in the "Unfinished Tales". She and Turin got sick because of the Evil Breath that came from Morgoth, presumably. Turin survived, but Laliath died.

Lord Of The Rings Question 9
Ultimate LOTR - 'The Two Towers' Part 2 - Gandalf's confrontation with Saruman ends with the cracking of Saruman's staff, symbolizing his ejection from the Istari. Following this crawls back away from the window out of which his confrontation with Gandalf occurred. An item is then lobbed out of the window, narrowly missing Gandalf's head as it crashes to the stairs near his feet...it's a palantír! Which member of the party runs to retrieve the magical globe as it rolls toward a pool of water?
The correct answer is 'Pippin'
Naturally the always-curious Pippin runs off to gather up the palantír, despite the potential danger its powers present. Later, Pippin will have a less than savory confrontation with the dark lord Sauron during a curious viewing of the dark object. By the way, the palantír was tossed out of the window by Wormtongue and not Saruman, his purpose apparently to smite Gandalf...he fails in this violent attempt at harming our wizened wizard friend with the hoary beard.
Lord Of The Rings Question 10
"The Fellowship of the Ring" - How does Frodo eventually reach the Ford of Bruinen?
The correct answer is 'Riding on the Horse of the Elf'
Glorfindel puts Frodo on his white horse and travels with the others who are on foot. Glorfindel also travels on foot and when the Black Riders finally catch up he commands his horse to take Frodo at great speed to the Ford. He himself stays behind with Aragorn to protect the Hobbits (in the movie adaption, Arwen rides the Horse and carries Frodo). The horse and Frodo make it safely over the Ford and Elrond asks the River to aid them and it crashes down with a great tidal wave onto the Riders. They have finally reached Elrond's House which Men call Rivendell. Elrond's refuge is known as Imladris to the Elves. The riddle of Boromir told him to go to Imladris to seek the Sword-that-was-broken. Karningul is the actual Westron (The Common Speech in Middle-Earth) name of which Rivendell is the anglicised version. It means the same thing henceforth. Elrond himself had been the herald of Gil-galad in the Last Alliance. Gil-galad perished with Elendil when they overthrew Sauron. Being of royal descent (of Gil-galad's Uncle, Turgon of Gondolin, who was his great-grandfather) Elrond could have claimed the kingship over the Noldor but preferred to be called Master of Rivendell.
