Someone who did the coloring of the characters got to decide their ethnicity. They choose for Smithers to be black, then later decided that wouldn't work for him and didn't bother re-coloring him to white for this episode.

Herb Powell is Homer's wealthy half-brother who Homer bankrupted in one episode, then who he lent money to in another episode, which led to Herb earning back all his lost fortunes.

George Carlin and Martin Mull provide these voices in the season ten episode "D'oh-in' in the Wind", which revolves around Homer trying to figure out his middle name.

In this episode, Marge discusses her marital troubles with a radio psychiatrist and Homer decides to make things up to Marge. To have a night out with Marge at a fancy restaurant and a motel, Homer calls the babysitting service. Unfortunately, while the Simpson parents are out having a good time, the kids are at home with a convict. She ties Bart and Lisa up in front of the TV, but Maggie unties them and they are able to outsmart her while she steals from the Simpsons' closets. When Marge and Homer return home early, Homer unwittingly unties the criminal and lets her go- just before the kids return with the police.

She has a horrible time looking after them, and decides she doesn't want kids after all. Instead, she adopts Jub Jub, her late Aunt's lizard.

This episode begins with Bart and Homer doing work on the front lawn. While Bart uses Homer's manual lawn mower, Rod Flanders is next door using Ned's riding lawn mower (with an umbrella and a cold drink). Bart tries to get Homer to buy a riding lawn mower, but Homer states that they should not try to compete with the Flanders family. This is when Ned drives up with a new RV, complete with satellite dish. Homer can't figure out how Ned can pay for it, but Ned tells him that he just uses credit.

Not even the Flanders family could escape the scourge of the Osaka flu in this season four episode, "Marge in Chains". Ned realizes he got the flu because he watched 'Married... with Children' on FOX, and laughed at it.

In “Pygmoelian”, Moe gets a facelift and stars in a soap opera ‘It Never Ends’. He says, ‘I don’t get it. When my face was crushed, why did it go back to my old face… should have been a different third face. Don’t make no – ’, and he is cut off to make way for the credits. Guess he was giving the story away like he and Homer told a season’s worth of plot to the viewers of “It Never Ends” – the reason he got fired.
