Star Trek Question 7
Can You Guess the Movie? - When Scotty travels 300 years back in time he encounters technology that is far beneath that which he is used to. In one particular scene he is attempting to use a computer to illustrate the structure of transparent aluminum. After Scotty unsuccessfully addresses the computer verbally, a frustrated 20th century engineer tells him to simply use the keyboard. Scotty replies, "Keyboard. How quaint." In which Star Trek movie do we find this exchange?
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
 Star Trek: Nemesis
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
 Star Trek: Insurrection
The correct answer is 'Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home'
Scotty, Captain Kirk's chief engineer on the Starship Enterprise, is used to being able to talk to the computer and to have it respond appropriately. When told to use the keyboard he begins very slowly until he gets the hang of it. Within seconds he produces a computer model for transparent aluminum. In this particular adventure, the crew of the Enterprise has traveled back to 1986. They must make a whale tank in which to transport a pair of whales forward to the 2200s. The whales, extinct in Kirk and Scotty's time, are needed to stop the destruction being caused by a probe in the 23rd century.

Star Trek Question 8
The First Names of "Star Trek" - I'm Lt. Uhura, Communications Officer. In my spare time, I like to sing in the crew lounge on occasion. My first name is Swahili for "star." Do you know what it is?
 LaToya
 Nyola
 Nyota
 Antoya
The correct answer is 'Nyota'
Communications Officer Lt. Nyota Uhura (whose name translates as "Star of Freedom") was a breakthrough character, in more ways than one:

1. She was one of the first Black characters on television in a non-servant role (Or, as a young Whoopi Goldberg once put it, "There's a Black lady on TV, and she ain't no maid!"). At one point, Nichelle Nichols was at a crossroads with "Star Trek" and had even told Gene Roddenberry that she wanted to leave the show. But, just hours after she did this, she met Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. King tried to tell her that he had admired her work on the show, but she stopped him and revealed she was going to quit. Upon hearing this, Dr. King said "You cannot! You must not! It's one of the only shows my wife and I let our children watch. Don't you realize the historic role you have in life? Not only are you a role model for little black children, but for the first time, little white children see us as we should be seen." Needless to say, she stayed with the show! (Quote from "Beyond Uhura", by Nichelle Nichols)

2. Nichelle Nichols and Bill Shatner shared the first interracial kiss on national television, in the episode "Plato's Stepchildren". But if you watch carefully, Nichelle and Bill don't actually kiss; their lips were, however, less then a half-inch away from each other. There was much concern as to whether people would object to "the kiss," especially in the South, but Gene Roddenberry claimed that not one letter complaining about it ever came in!

Star Trek Question 9
"Babylon 5" and "Star Trek: Voyager" - Meditation was practiced by several characters in both series. Who, of the following, did not meditate on a regular basis?
 Tuvok
 Janeway
 Delenn
 Chakotay
The correct answer is 'Janeway'
Although Janeway tells Tuvok in "Repression" that he had taught her to meditate, the only time we see her meditating was when Chakotay showed her how to contact her animal guide. Tuvok and Chakotay were seen meditating, as was Delenn (who tried to teach Sheridan).

 Picard
 Riker
 Data
 Troi
The correct answer is 'Riker'
