So, in an unseen agreement, John agreed to allow the demon to kill him. The demon went into the reaper, sent Dean's soul back into his body, and then John handed over the colt. Moments later we see Sam find his father's body, and then the medical team pronounces the death as 10:41 am. We do not know yet know if John had to sacrifice only his life, or he had to hand over his soul as well. Maybe we'll see actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan again, as a spirit guide for his sons. I hope so. I have seen him die in every series I've seen him in- "Weeds", "Grey's Anatomy", and "Supernatural".
