After being apprehended at the bus station, Kate had a discussion with the Marshal as he drove her back toward Iowa to face court for her crime. The Marshal questioned Kate's reasoning for killing Wayne now, and was convinced that he had her "figured out". Suddenly a figure stood ahead on the rainy road and the car veered into a light pole, knocking the Marshal unconscious. (Several camera angles show electrical wires overhead.) Kate used the opportunity to free herself from the handcuffs (EXACTLY as she had done on the plane) and escaped-- but not before seeing the black horse trot off the road. It seemed that fate, and the mysterious horse, had set Kate free.

However, when looking upon Kate's time line of crimes, one must begin to question if fate had been set to make Kate free from the beginning. Examine the sequence of events known at this point:

While being transported back to Iowa after becoming a prisoner, Kate made an escape from the handcuffs in the same way she had done on the plane.

She then most likely spent quite awhile on the run, using false aliases and disguises, until returning to see her ill mother at the hospital and reuniting with her childhood love, Tom. After being discovered, Kate managed to outrun the police and escape (though the second car crash was fatal for Tom).

Kate then ended up in New Mexico and robbed a bank under the alias "Maggie" in order to retrieve Tom's toy airplane from safety deposit box 815, and shot her companion Jason and the two other robbers in the process.

Kate then made her way to Australia and began farm work for Ray Mullen under the alias "Annie", until he turned her in for $23,000. Kate narrowly escaped that car crash, and would likely have evaded arrest had she not saved Ray's life.

Once again in the Marshall's management, Kate was being escorted back to the U.S. on Flight 815. She escaped during the crash, and found freedom once again on the island.

Perhaps all along she was meant to escape, as signified by the reappearance of the horse (which had aided in her first getaway).

This infuriated Ros because she didn't want it sold and said they have no right to sell it at auction. Sandra seemed to want to keep this because of how much Ros and her aunties wanted it.

Ross then turns the tables and pulls a practical joke on her and makes her think he fell down the stairs. That part was hilarious!

Claire use to date a man named David. One of the memories she recovered, was the knowledge that David was murdered by a man named Thomas Baker over some treasure Thomas and David had found SCUBA diving.

And so the couple girls and single guys got whisked off to a deluxe spa resort while the others were stuck camping in the rainforest.
